What is JAMB?

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is the Nigerian body that conducts the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.  

Key Dates for the 2025 UTME

• Direct Entry (DE) Application Period: Ongoing.
• Mock Examination Date: Saturday, April 5, 2025.
• UTME Examination Period: Friday, April 25, 2025, to Monday, May 5, 2025.  

Candidates’ Data Mismatch at CBT Centres

• JAMB found data discrepancies for some candidates in 132 out of 887 approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers.
• Affected centers have been sanctioned.
• JAMB holds both the centers and the 200 candidates who confirmed incorrect data accountable.
• Negligent candidates must visit a JAMB center to rectify the errors.
• Registration officers involved in the discrepancies are barred from JAMB activities.  

Institutions Must Prioritize Results Verification

• JAMB observed that some institutions aren’t verifying candidates’ results, especially for Direct Entry.
• Institutions are responsible for ensuring the legitimacy of documents used for admissions.
• JAMB introduced the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS) to aid verification.
• NIPEDS has helped identify forged certificates from foreign institutions.
• 13 fake A’level certificates were recently discovered.
• Institutions using fake certificates will be considered complicit in fraud.
• JAMB urges institutions to thoroughly verify all A’level qualifications.  

Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB) Calls for Solutions

• The NAB asked JAMB to find solutions for challenges blind candidates face with mathematical graphs and visual requirements.
• NAB President, Mr. Stanley Onyebuchi, made the appeal to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.
• Current methods pose difficulties for blind students in meeting tertiary education entry requirements.
• NAB proposed alternative assessment methods, course-specific waivers, enhanced accessibility, NAB representation in JAMB’s Equal Opportunities Group (JEOG), and intervention in program transfers.
• JAMB Registrar acknowledged the challenges and said JAMB will partner with NAB.

2025 DE Application: Registration Closes in April

• JAMB Gombe State Coordinator, Mr. Johnson Adebiyi, provided guidelines for the 2025 Direct Entry (DE) registration.
• The registration commenced on March 12, 2025, and will close in April 2025.
• Adebiyi emphasized the required qualifications and the importance of adhering to directives.  

Mandatory Use of NIN for Non-Regular Programmes

• JAMB mandates the use of the National Identification Number (NIN) for registration by candidates applying for non-regular programs.
