The Regional Meteorological Training Centre (RMTC) in Oshodi was established in 1957 and later merged with another training center in 1975 to become the Meteorological Research and Training Institute (MRTI). It is recognized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) as a Regional Training Centre for West African countries. It trains meteorological personnel from Nigeria and other English-speaking West African nations. The Muhammadu Buhari Meteorological Institute of Science and Technology (MBMIST) in Katsina (established 2019) also offers diploma programs in Meteorology and Climate Change Science, with a curriculum compliant with international standards. It’s possible the Oshodi institute is now associated with or has evolved into MBMIST or remains a distinct training center under NiMet.
